Most of us are exposed to poetry more often than we think - through song lyrics. The link between poetry and music was particularly strong for David McComb, lead singer of The Triffids, who wrote both sublime songs and highly regarded poems (the latter published posthumously).
Tell us your favourite lyric and you could win a copy of Beautiful Waste: Poems by David McComb (edited by Chris Coughran and Niall Lucy). Comment on this post by Monday 31 May to go into the draw.

My favourite song lyric is "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen. Not only is it brilliant as a poem, it is brilliant as part of the overall song, since both words and music work so well together.
